Meigs was incorporated in 1889, and made up a prospering residential area of several hundred inhabitants. Agribusiness, turpentine farms, a lumbermill, cotton gin and the railroad line contributed a rise to the local economic system. Similar to several smaller communities, living altered over the next century for the successful business district since folks and products were able to be more transportable. All the same, the residents of this area continue to sustain their community, and contribute back by volunteering and taking part in local organizations.
In 1979, a Mennonite household relocated to the area, and was afterwards joined by additional families. As a group, they're recognized in South Georgia and North Florida for their first-class workmanship. Each year, they have a sales event and auction of hand-crafted comforters, baked goods and different items.
